Historically, small business starts were leading in adding new jobs to the American economy and this may still be true on a smaller scale in today's economic times.
There are a number of small businesses starting out more on the self-employed scale due to job loss and the lack thereof in the job market today.
Small Businesses need capital and in the past a home equity line of credit or business credit cards could carry the business for sometime until revenues started picking up.  Unfortunately, the banks and lenders are tighter with extending credit and that stream has somewhat dried up for some that are seeking a base or platform of that nature to move from.
Others, were able to rely on family for a loan, but this can be difficult also.
The need for small businesses to help fuel our economy is still there, and probably greater today than in the past.
Hopefully people with that entrepreneurial spirit will continue to use those great ideas that open up possibilites for themselves, and add avenues for others seeking employment; in turn this will certainly help the American economy now and future job growth.
